I recently visited a bathroom that had a interesting combination of styles, but had a very balanced feel to it. I would say that majority of this bathroom was decorated in the shabby chic style that is increasing in popularity today, becuase of it’s recycled element to give it’s distinguishing details. The wall paper, being a textured motif of swirls and designs went very well with the vintage modern sink. Not to mention the color of the walls being a blue-gray accented with white fixtures and sink, made the look feel like it was Victorian, yet new and modern. The one bathroom accessory that didn’t fit the typical shabby chic style was the Geometric Print Fabric Shower Curtain.
As I sat on the toilet and contemplated this design decision,
I had an epiphany and it suddenly made since. . .
This curtain was the piece that made the shabby into chic! It was primarily white, but the gray and black triangles gave it a symmetrical controlled look that was the exact opposite of the free-spirited shabby chic style I am used to. It actually fit extremely well and gave the bathroom a “newly remodeled look” that every one seems to be desiring in these hard economic times.
This little insight opened my eyes to the idea that number one interior design rule is to not follow the rules! Life’s too short to be bound by these projected social norms. Go ahead with your bad self….hang that unique shower curtain, even if it doesn’t go with ANYTHING else in the house! Let individuality be your style!
