Last week I released my test group of hand painted shower curtains. We are incredibly excited about this whole experience! Having spent hundreds of hours viewing, buying, and selling shower curtains, I found myself growing frustrated with the limited design and expression. Then I heard this quote:
critique through creating
I was blown away! It was like as if the light switch just flicked on and I could see the limitless potential at hand! We hope our business affords our patrons the design experience that yields a unique and pleasing home scape. We have always said that your shower curtain is your largest piece of art, but never did I actually consider turning that curtain into a canvas.
Lately, I have been deeply inspired by two major themes: Nature & Vintage French Chic. I’ll debrief in descending order:
- Shabby Chic: Design is a fantastic trait. I’ve always been inspired by people’s efforts to create beauty, and especially beauty that is functional. Vintage french chic style is elegant to the eye as the french language is eloquent to the ear. Simple lines combined with soft fabrics, like a midsummer afternoon nap. I recently made our Fleur-De-Lis Shower Curtain. I overlaid the ancient symbol with a damask print because it combine the chic style with a natural floral display.
- Nature: These days, if you were to pass me walking through the city, you’d be sure to think I am crazy. Why else would I be laying on the side walks with a camera, or climbing on top of my car snapping images of tree branches! But I love it! Everywhere I go, I see the simplicity of nature. I see it in the budding trees, the blooming flowers, the birds in my garden, my garden, the weeds growing in the cracks of the concrete.
My Current Project: My last custom shower curtain was our hummingbird shower curtain. That was cool, and my favorite part was free painting the flower silhouettes. I started investigating other free shaped nature items, and have decided to create a blowing dandelion shower curtain. It should be pretty cool. As soon as our site is able to handle images, I’ll begin posting my progress!
