Winter is not my favorite season, though I do love to cuddle in a big blanket by a nice, blazing fire in the company of good friends. I’m still relishing in the goodness of fall, hoping that winter doesn’t peek it’s head in this section of the country. We hope everyone is keeping warm in the heat of the shower and enjoying whatever season is coming your way (at the moment).

Even though there are more options than having to go to the other extreme with a tropical shower curtain, it would not be a bad idea to follow the seasons.  So while you are going through the closet and cleaning out clothes and bringing out warmer clothes, take a chance with a new shower curtain!

Spring cleaning is a familiar term but is not always a familiar practice.  There is something about warmer temperatures that energize us to take on our home that has probably been ransacked over the course of the winter.  On top of the normal cleaning, the shift from cold weather clothes to their counterparts, spring cleaning is also a great time to make some decor adjustments.  With different seasons come different designs and colors.  A Christmas shower curtain won’t be relevant until a potential Christmas in July campaign so its time to take it out of the game for awhile.  I’m not sure about you all, but I’m more likely to get fired up about a palm tree shower curtain scene than the green and red we have wore out recently!

As strange as it may sound, a bathroom and even something as easily overlooked as a novelty shower curtain is an extremely practical form of an investment in these dreams. It is a place designed for comfort, to meet the needs of the owner and their loved ones. Every room in a home can be considered a piece of the investment pie, and the bathroom should be recognized as one of the greater aspects of this fact.

But a savvy gift buyer, I mean the kind that are truly froogle, know that buying early and buying on sale is the way to maximize gift potential and to keep the awesomenes rolling.  For that reason, I promote the buying of holiday memorabilia as early as January.  That way, you and your friends will save money, gather the products you like the most, and come Christmas, while everyone else is frantically running around like goons, you and your crew can sit back and sip some egg-nog.  If indeed you agree w/ my reasoning, feel free to check out some of our christmas shower curtains.

My daughter is approaching her first year of life.  What a journey it has been for our family.  She was born into a pink recieving blanket.  That was right around when we bought our first christmas shower curtain, early in December.  The amount of love generated within our home blows us away.  I never knew that I could look at another human being and be stirred so deeply, the love of a parent to a child is trully a poweful force.

Her room is filled with modern decorations, big broad shapes with cool lines connecting them, a sweet hand made mobile, a scandanavian crib.  Lately, as she has grown in wisdom and stature, we’ve noticed that the majority of clothing available for our daughter is themed with a touch of princess.  This doe not bother me because she is my love.  Princess Shower Curtain.

Fall has been creeping in quickly, and if you’re like me, you’re welcoming the cooler weather.  If you’re like me, you’re also thinking about how you can update your home to make it more seasonally appropriate or coordinated.  Perhaps you’re just tired of the same-old, same-old and are looking for a new touch.  Start with making a seasonal statement.  If you’re smart about your choices, a seasonal statement can last several seasons.  How so?

1. Choose a timeless shower curtain, like the one above.  This beautiful curtain would be perfect for welcoming in the Fall colors with it’s deep ruby red.  But as the curtain is not patterned with a stereotypical Fall motif (maple leaves, Jack-o-Lanterns, harvest scenes), it can be reused for many seasons.  Just because you choose a seasonal shower curtain doesn’t mean it has to have all the seasonal bells and whistles, meaning you don’t have to choose a Christmas shower curtain littered with little Santa’s all over it (although you may want to).  As a hint, try to avoid anything that looks like your high school home economics teacher’s Halloween or Christmas sweater.

2. Choose a color that is right for you and makes a statement.  Color is important!  If you have bold walls, tone down the curtain.  Plain walls, be brave with the curtain and other accessories, even go with a pattern, like our example here.  This red is perfect for the Fall, but could also be used easily in the other seasons.  The delicate pattern allows home decorators to be creative, bringing out different colors – like the hint of blue – with different accessories.

3. Make simple changes each season to update the look, and change the overall feel of the bathroom.  The number one way to do this, is flowers.  Find a small table to place in a corner with a vase of seasonal flowers, or purchase a hanging wall vase to save floor space.  Change out photos as well.  I particularly like finding unique postcards when I travel and framing those.  Find Winter depictions to display in the Winter, and cheery Summer ones for those hot months, etc.  Postcards are cheap, durable, and can last many seasons.

4. Add a seasonal candle with a seasonal smell.  Think cotton blossom for Spring, ocean spray for Summer, nutmeg or cinnamon for Fall, and fresh pine for Winter if you’re short on ideas.  Changing candles for each season is a simple step but bold statement.

5. Change out other linens in the bathroom.  Go with a new bat mat or towels for each season.  New colors or patterns for the new time.  But remember, if you have a bold  curtain or walls, go with simple linens and vice-versa.

We often think decorating is hard work, but simplify it, and make your job easy.  You don’t have to drastically remodel your bathroom to make it feel new and refreshed.
